The Author
British-born Matt Turner graduated from Loughborough College of Art in the 1980s. Since
then he has worked as a photo researcher, editor, and writer. He has written books on diverse
topics including natural history, earth sciences, and railways as well as hundreds of articles for
encyclopedias and partworks, covering everything from elephants to abstract art. He and his
family currently live in Auckland, Aotearoa/New Zealand, where he volunteers for the local coast
guard unit and dabbles in painting.
The Artist
Born in Medellín, Colombia, Santiago Calle is an illustrator and animator trained at Edinburgh
College of Art in the UK. He began his career as a teacher, which led him to deepen his studies
in sequential art. Santiago partnered with his brother Juan to found his art studio, Liberum
Donum, in Bogotá in 2006. Since then, they have dedicated themselves to producing concept art,
illustration, comic strip art, and animation.
