In 2005, Vonn’s fun side was on display after she won
a race in France. Part of her prize was a bouquet of
flowers . . . and a cow. Most winners choose to sell the
cow. It is usually considered a symbol of victory rather
than a prize to take home. But Vonn kept her cow. She
named it Olympe and started a family of cows. She has a
herd of five. Another time, she was awarded a goat. She
named it Laura, after
her sister.
Most people might
think of these as
smelly prizes to get
rid of quickly. Vonn
saw a chance to try
something fun and
unusual. Her cows
and goat live with
farmers in Austria,
near where Vonn
used to train.
Vonn kept her 2005 prize and
named it Olympe.
