BANGER
B
anger racing usually takes place on short oval dirt tracks
in Great Britain. Like other car races, the first car to finish
wins. The difference is that drivers stop at nothing to get
there. They push their own cars beyond their limits and try to
get competitor’s cars off the track. Wrecks are common!
SAFETY FIRST
The most important part of any
banger is its roll cage. The cars often
end up on their sides or upside down.
There are no rules governing banger
racing, so each driver needs to make
sure they are fully protected.
RACE TO THE END
Some banger races are non-contact.
Others are team races with two or
four cars chained together. Often
there is a demolition derby at the
end. This is not really a race. The
winner is the last car moving, having
demolished the other cars.
