Bacon. He also shared the work of American modern dancers and
choreographers Martha Graham and Mercier Philip “Merce” Cun-
ningham with his students because he felt that studying movement
was an important part of animation.
To help the next generation of animators, Engel established the
Jules Engel Endowed Scholarship Fund at CalArts to support ani-

Students who are interested in the relationship between humans and
the environment, like Stephen Hillenburg, may choose to pursue a
degree in environmental management and protection. Students who
major in environmental management and protection use science to un-
derstand ecosystems and natural resources. They learn how humans
interact with the natural environment. They build critical thinking skills
to analyze, understand, manage, and improve the relationship among
humans and the environment.
People with a degree in environmental management and protection
work in several types of jobs. Some become environmental planners.
Others work as environmental consultants, geospatial analysts, or en-
vironmental impact analysts. Others become environmental educators,
outdoor recreation managers, park rangers, wilderness rangers, or res-
toration ecologists. In each of these roles, they work for the benefit of
the environment and the humans that rely on it.
