ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Garret Romaine has been an avid rock hound,
fossil hunter, and gold prospector for 35 years. He
is a long-time journalist, columnist, and technical
writer who teaches technical writing at Portland
State University. He is a Fellow in the Society
for Technical Communication, an organization
dedicated to explaining complex technology
and science. He holds a degree in geology
from the University of Oregon and a degree in
geography from the University of Washington. He
is the author of many books on geology and the
outdoors, including
The Modern Rockhounding
and Prospecting Handbook, Rockhounding Idaho,
Gem Trails of Oregon, Gem Trails of Washington,
and
Gold Panning the Pacific Northwest
. He
is a member of the Board of Directors for the
Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals
and also serves on the board of the North
American Research Group, devoted to amateur
paleontologists.
