care of the girl forever and ever. The end.”
Kaya held her breath and waited for a reaction. There was
none, of course. She knew better than to expect applause. The
listeners weren’t like the crowds at the market. They didn’t
cheer or clap, no matter how good the performance was. If the
listener accepted her story, it would show its appreciation by
giving power to her words.
“Rise,” she said, looking at the lump of dough.
The dough expanded to nearly three times its original size.
It floated upward, too, levitating above the table for several
seconds before gently falling back down.
The listener had liked her story.
