So do robots. A robot is a machine that
carries out a series of actions on its
own. Every robot has a small computer
inside it. This computer controls the
robot’s movements. People use code to
write instructions for the computer. They

for the motors that move the robot. In many
robots, sensors send information to the computer
as well. The computer uses this information to
help the robot avoid falling or crashing. In some
robots, the computer can even make decisions. For
instance, a self-driving car can follow a map without
instructions from a driver.
