Hospitality Manager
What Does a Hospitality
Manager Do?
The word
hospitality
refers to providing
friendly service, housing, and entertain-
ment to guests—and that is precisely
what hospitality management is all about.
Hospitality manager
is an umbrella term
that refers to management professionals
who oversee service establishments. For
those who dream of traveling, a hospi-
tality management career could be ideal
because the job could take them most
anywhere in the world. Hospitality man-
agers are in charge of posh resorts in the
Caribbean; five-star hotels in London,
Paris, and Rome; bed-and-breakfasts
in New England’s small, picturesque vil-
lages; casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, or
Monaco’s famed Monte Carlo; and the
luxury accommodations of cruise ships.
Hospitality management profession-
als’ titles vary widely from job to job. They
may be called general manager, opera-
tions manager, lodging manager, director,
or chief executive, just to name a few. As
different as their jobs and titles may be,
the one responsibility these professionals
share is ensuring that guests receive the
best service possible during a visit.
