          School-to-Home Support for
          Caregivers and Teachers

This book helps children grow by letting them practice reading. Here
are a few guiding questions to help the reader with building his or her
comprehension skills. Possible answers appear here in red.
          Before Reading:
          • What do I think this story will be about?
            • I think this story will be about horrible creatures and insects in the
              woods scaring the campers.
            • I think this story will include ghost stories with real ghosts bothering
              the campers.
          During Reading:
          • Pause and look at the words and pictures. Why did the
            character do that?
            • I think Old Donny gave Will a bag of hot dogs because he wanted the
campers to roast them and draw the attention of the Dark Monster.
            • I think Chase and Nelly asked Will if he had any ideas for dealing with
the Dark Monster because they thought he could come up with a
              good plan.
          After Reading:
          • Describe your favorite part of the story.
            • My favorite part was when the campers locked arms together and
roared as loud as they could over and over and over again.
            • I liked when the Dark Monster left and the campers high-fived each
other and crawled into their tents for a good night’s sleep.
