THE SINGULARITY
W
hen Google hired AI researcher Ray Kurzweil to develop machine
learning and language processing techniques, the artificial
intelligence community took note. A futurist (one who tries to predict
what life might be like in the future, based on current trends), Kurzweil
has a habit of making predictions that come true. “In 1999, I said that
in about a decade we would see technologies such as self-driving cars and
mobile phones that could answer your questions, and people criticized
these predictions as unrealistic,” he told the press when his Google job was
