Iggy and Malcolm and the other freshmen all
week, doing everything they can to give the
younger guys a hard time on the field. The
returning varsity players wanted to get in the
heads of the younger players, and it worked.
Iggy knows that today he and Malcolm have to
stay in the zone to have any chance of making
the team.
As the two freshmen head toward one of
the nets, Coach Yuro roars. “What are you two
doing? Get off the field. I’m still setting up!”
They scramble back to the sideline, and
both yell “sorry!” at the same time.
“Yikes,” Malcolm whispers. “Someone’s not
in a good mood.”
“I’ve heard he’s never in a good mood.”
Iggy points to an open space near the
equipment shed. “Let’s practice over there.”
They grab their water bottles and set them
about twenty-four feet apart, the width of a
soccer goal. Malcolm stands in the middle and
stretches his arms and legs.
“Ready?” Iggy yells, backing up.
“Ready!”
