“Yes, sir,” Calvin said. He heard his
shipmate groan, but the noise was soon
drowned out by the sounds of fighting.
As Calvin moved around the ship, he
was aware of flickers and flashes out on
the dark water. He knew that they were
coming from burning warships. Calvin
couldn’t always tell if they were Japanese
or American ships. Eventually, he
ignored them as he went about his work.
