Voyager Mission
In the 1980s,
Voyager 1
and
Voyager 2
flew by Saturn.
Scientists wanted to get closer to Saturn and learn more
about its rings and moons. Instruments on
Voyager
1
measured the hydrogen and helium in Saturn’s atmosphere.
Voyager 1
also found three new moons and Saturn’s G ring.
Voyager 2
took this image of
Saturn’s B ring in August 1981.
