              Killer Whale Survival

Killer whales can get hit by ships or cut by

propellers. Many killer whales get tangled in
commercial fishing lines and nets. They often drown.
In North America, killer whales are protected
from hunting and capture. Those that roam close to

shore do not fear boats or divers. In fact, they
often come close to people. Echolocation helps them
recognize humans. They know that people are not food.
Wild killer whales have never seriously harmed a

person. Instead, they are curious around humans.
