t was technically still Regeneration Day. They had gone
from late afternoon to around 7 a.m., except 610 days earlier.
IBut the twins could never have waited until tomorrow—not
after everything they had discovered.
They hadn’t bothered to change. Instead they made a nui-
sance of themselves until the king and queen had agreed to
meet them. So here they stood, in the throne room once again.
Waiting for a chance to save their family.
“Do you really think it could work?” Valentine whispered.
“I mean, it makes a crazy kind of sense, but . . .”
“Asha thinks it might, though she can’t remember anyone
trying it,” Malcolm said. “When she gets here, we’ll nd out
for sure.”
He faced the dais, trying to look serious and focused, but
every few seconds it would slip and his joy would shine through.
Come on, get a grip. They’ll be here any minute.
Valentine eyed him with a grin.
“. . . What?”
“Oh, nothing,” she said, facing forward as well. After a mo-
ment of silence she added, “Asha must be a good kisser.”
