racie pressed the book to her chest, feeling like she might
Gcry as she left the back room. She’d been so close, and yet
somehow managed to let it all slip between her fingers. She hadn’t
gotten any answers. She’d seen Gertrude Winters, in person, and
still had no idea what Winters had written about her.
“Gracie?”
Gracie’s head snapped up. Walter stood in the science section
next to the restroom sign, holding a stack of books. He wore a
backpack covered in buttons with various slogans on them. One
said “I 6 Science.” Another said: “Never trust an atom: they make
up everything.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I finished my dark matter book and wanted to get another
one.” Walter held a book out, thumbing to the middle and jabbing
at a picture of outer space. “Did you know there is so much dark
matter in the universe that we can’t see that scientists think it
proves there are other dimensions?”
