392 million people there base their religious beliefs on the
teachings of the Buddha. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Vietnam,
Cambodia, South Korea, India, and Malaysia are home to nearly
68 million Buddhists.
Outside of the Asia-Pacific region, significant Buddhist
populations mainly exist in North America and Europe.
Buddhism is the religion of 3.9 million North Americans and
1.3 million Europeans. Finally, approximately 1.1 million people
practice Buddhism in Central and South America, the Middle
East, and sub-Saharan Africa.
