          HOW IT WORKS

Just as each letter has an address on it, packets have

headers that enable them to reach their destination.

          PACKETS

Each packet is labeled with a header. The

header is like a luggage tag. It contains address

information that is used to determine where to

send the packet as it travels through the Internet.

Different packets from the same message may

take different routes to reach the destination.

When the packets all reach their destination, the

information they contain is put back together

into a message. The use of packets enables

fast delivery of messages through the Internet.

Messages are unpacked and recreated so quickly

that the sharing of information seems instant.
