                                   Hurricanes










                             Hurricanes form over warm ocean



                             water. The air above the water



                             warms and rises. Cool air replaces



                             it. The water heats this air, too.



                                As more warm air rises, huge



                             clouds form. The clouds spin.






                                     As Hurricane Katrina neared land,
                                     its clouds were 415 miles (668 km)
                                     across.
