rage. They were furious that the police had
killed another unarmed Black man. They
began protesting. A few began rioting. They
looted stores and damaged businesses.
FROM MOMENT TO MOVEMENT
Soon the protests spread across the
country. People wanted to take a stand for
Michael Brown. They also wanted to stand
for other Black Americans who had been
killed by police. They chanted Brown’s
name and the phrase “Hands up, don’t
shoot.” Investigators found no evidence
that Brown had really said this. But it still
