respond with kindness when bad things happen to others. In
2020 alone, Americans donated a record $471 billion to charity.
Unpleasant people get a lot of attention, thanks to viral videos
and clickbait news stories. But those who learn to focus on the
positive often feel better and just might live longer. Morganstein
says that people need to spend “more time walking outside,
seeing our neighbors, saying hello, exchanging problem-solving
[ideas], and reminding each other that we’re in this together.” 5
