Wildlife Protection Goes High-Tech
In recent years, as technology has grown more sophisticated,
scientists have discovered innovative ways to protect wildlife and
their habitats. New methods of tracking help monitor the behavior
of wildlife while they are on the move. Sophisticated computer
modeling software can depict what habitats looked like before
humans degraded or destroyed them. High-tech cameras allow
scientists to observe wildlife in ways never before possible. Even
drones have proved to be invaluable tools for studying wildlife, as
scientists can use them to photograph and videotape animals in
their native habitats.
Despite the progress that has been made in protecting wildlife,
challenges still abound. Habitats worldwide are being degraded
and destroyed at a rapid rate, and wildlife species are suffering
because of it. Many of these species risk extinction because of
habitat loss. Yet scientists remain steadfast in their commitment to
the study of wildlife and their habitats and to finding ways to undo
the damage that humans have inflicted on habitats worldwide.
