With pula in hand, Mapula walks to a corner store to buy fresh bread
for breakfast. Pula is the name of the currency in Botswana; it is also
the word for rain in Setswana, a language spoken by over four million
people. Since rain is often scarce, it is very important to the people
who live there. Sometimes babies are named after the different kinds
of rain. Mapula is a name for “mother of rain.”
