Comic Decoders have been written using a controlled set of letter sounds and words. Each
group of readers in the series builds on the previous group and has both previously taught
sounds and words as well as new sounds and words.
Comic Decoders are designed to be used in their numbered order. Depending on the needs
of your students however, you may have different starting points within the number ordered
sets. Ongoing assessment of students’ phonic knowledge, their blending ability and their high
frequency word knowledge will help you choose which group to use first. Comic Decoders are
intended to support the synthetic phonics program you are implementing in your classroom.
