                                       GENDER-BASED

                                                     EQUITY

he Canadian Human Rights Commission was created in 1977.
It is a federal organization that helps protect human rights for

Tall Canadians. It makes sure that all people are treated fairly

based on their needs. This includes people who are treated unfairly
                          because of their gender.

Women have faced challenges with equity. Often, women are

not paid the same amount as men. In fact, women make 74 cents

per every dollar that a man makes. One reason for this is that

many women spend more time on childcare and household work
than men. This is even in households where both partners have

full-time jobs. As a result, women are more likely to feel pressure

to sacrifice their careers to allow more time for the work they do
                          at home.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission is one of the
organizations throughout Canada that helps people be treated
fairly. The group holds conferences to discuss certain issues.
