You can embrace racial differences
by learning more about people who
are different from you. One of the best
ways to do that is talking to people. If
you make new friends your own age,
you might also meet their families.
Maybe the family has kept up their
traditions even if they have lived in Canada for years. Lots of Canadians
are proud of where their relatives came from. You may learn more
about a different part of the world. Read books and watch movies
and TV shows that are about people of a different racial background.
People from all races have achieved amazing things in politics, the
arts, sports, science, and many other areas. All this will help you to
respect and embrace differences.
In 2016, Canadians were from
250 different ethnic backgrounds.
The United Kingdom, Ireland, and
France were the most common.
About 20 million Canadians were
from Europe; 1.8 million were
Chinese; 1.4 million were East
Indian; and 837,130 were Filipino.
More than 2 million Canadians
had Indigenous ancestry.
