The Solar
System
The Sun is at the center of a large family
of space objects.
All these objects are orbiting, or circling,
around the Sun.
There are eight planets orbiting the Sun.
The planets are called Mercury, Venus,
our home planet Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus, and Neptune.
Icy comets and rocky asteroids are also
circling around the Sun.
Together, the Sun, the planets, and other
space objects are called the solar system.
Asteroids are huge
space rocks. Most of
the asteroids orbiting
the Sun are in a ring
called the asteroid belt.
