The Mesopotamian tunnel below
the Euphrates River is believed to
have been 3,000 ft (914 m) long. USE THE

                                                          TUNNEL. WE’VE
                                                          JUST FINISHED
                              HOW DO I GET IT!
                               ACROSS THE
                                 RIVER?

To make the Euphrates tunnel, workers probably diverted
the river, dug a trench across the riverbed, built a brick tunnel,
and then let the river flow over it.

                                                   Hezekiah’s Tunnel was built
2,700 years ago to bring water
                                                  into Jerusalem, Israel. Today,
                                                  you can walk through it—but
you might get a little wet!
             WOW, THIS IS
              SO OLD . . .

                                        AND SO
                                         DAMP!
