Pouches

Nearly all female marsupials have a pouch.

The pouch is a fold of skin. A newborn baby

crawls inside when it is very tiny. It stays there

for around eight months and drinks its mother’s

milk. It stays safe and warm.

               Unlike kangaroos,

               wombat pouches

               open at the rear.
