Saunders Book Company Awarded Under Ontario Ministry’s Approved List of Evidence-
Based Reading Programs and Intervention Solutions with Benchmark Phonics

Collingwood, ON: Saunders Book Company is pleased to announce it has been officially
selected as a supplier under OECM’s Systematic and Explicit Evidence-Based Reading
Program and Intervention Solutions Agreement for Tier 1 instruction.

This agreement enables school boards across Ontario to access targeted, evidence-based
instructional and intervention resources to support students facing literacy challenges. These
tools are designed to strengthen foundational reading skills, reduce achievement gaps, and
promote equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction for all learners.

Tier 1: Whole Classroom Support
Products Offered: Benchmark Phonics for Grades K-5 from Benchmark Education

Benchmark Phonics is a foundational skills program for based on the latest Science of Reading
research to make learning phonics natural for K-5 readers. The program provides systematic
scope and sequence with spiraled review that ensures mastery to transfer. Explicit instruction
with meaningful practice applies learning to real reading and writing experiences. And built-in
scaffolds support a wide range of learners for efficient use of instructional time.
