SPACEPORTS
Across the United States, several spaceports are ready for
business, and more will be built as the space tourism industry
grows. Aerospace companies have been testing military and
civilian aircraft at California’s Mojave Air and Space Port since
World War II (1939–1945). In the first decade of the twenty-first
century, SpaceShipOne made its test flights from Mojave. XCOR,
Virgin Galactic, and other aerospace companies have also test-
flown vehicles there.

Space Port during its test flights.
The wide-open California desert,
home to the Mojave Air and Space
Port, is a popular place for companies
to build and test spacecraft.
