During a major depressive episode, a person may have problems
with sleep almost every day for two weeks or longer. Some
people cannot sleep well, while others sleep too much.
Then there is the impact on family. Families often struggle
to understand and cope with family members who suffer from
mental illness. Red flags in a child’s behavior can often be
overlooked by family members. People who are depressed may
sleep a lot. They may become irritable for no apparent reason.
They may lose interest in friends and social activities. People
suffering from some mental illnesses may seem unmotivated
