Laura groaned, loudly enough for Miss Ashman to

hear.
“Laura,” said Miss Ashman, “do you have a different

opinion?”

“First of all, the article didn’t say anything about

Communists. Can we stop it with the Communists? And
second, the district is on the Indian reservation. So why

does the government care about Indians being in their own

district?”

“Well, they shouldn’t be looting someone’s store,”
Carlos broke in.

“Why is there even a store there?” asked Laura. “I

mean, who sells snacks and souvenirs at a grave site. That’s

so creepy.”
“Good points,” Miss Ashman said. “Other thoughts?”

“The article says the Indians want more land, right?”

Donna asked. Miss Ashman nodded. “But what would

they do with more land? My dad says most Indians are
alcoholics who live off welfare. You don’t need more land

for that.”
