Patsy sighed on her way out. She couldn’t wait for
math class.
That night, for the first time ever, Patsy joined Dad on
the living room couch to watch the evening news on TV.
The occupation of Wounded Knee was the first story. The
reporter said the protesters were holding eleven people
hostage, and shots had been fired from both sides.
“Do you think Grandma and Aunt Marilyn and Hank
are okay?” Patsy asked Dad.
“I think Marilyn would find a way to get in touch if they
were in any trouble.” Dad squeezed Patsy’s hand. “The
women in the Antoine family are smart—and resourceful.”
