AMATEUR
When players are not paid.
ASSIST
When a player passes to a teammate who scores, he earns an
assist. In hockey the last two players to touch the puck before a
teammate scores earn an assist.
DRAFT
An event in which teams select new players who are coming into
the league.
DYNASTY
A team that wins several championships over a short period of
time.
MAJOR JUNIOR
The highest level of hockey for players age 16 to 20.
RETIRED
Removed from active use. When a team or league retires a jersey
number, no other player can wear that number.
RIVALRY
An ongoing fierce competition between two teams.
ROOKIE
A player in his first season in a new league.
