Children of all ages traveled across the United States on
                            orphan trains.

anxious and worried about their future. Children

who had left behind families didn’t know if they

would ever see their parents again.

The orphan trains were advertised in local

Midwestern newspapers before arriving in towns.

Once the children arrived, CAS agents would take

them to a large public building. There, families

could meet the children and bring them home.
