added. “We have had two other boys come through this school
and have two children here now. I know what goes on.”
“If you have a problem with the way that we handle dis-
cipline here, you are welcome to speak with Mrs. Carter, the
principal.” Mrs. Fulston’s face was red and splotchy, her voice
now tight and tinny sounding.
“You know what?” Karen Manos was officially over it.
“Why don’t you just draw up the paperwork to unenroll Mari
from this lovely institution of learning.”
Mari sat there, mouth hanging open, mad, hurt, and a
million other feelings.
