speaking. Lower-class families lived
in tight apartments. Many were
farmers or craftsmen.
Aqueducts carried water into Rome.
All people drew water from public
fountains. They enjoyed public baths,
too. Roman women were at home
most of the time. Girls married as
young as age 12.
