Ajani loves having a dad from Denmark and
a mom from Jamaica. Ajani speaks three
languages and gets to spend summers with
his grandparents in the coolest places. But
when a classmate overhears dark-skinned
Ajani speaking Danish, the boy makes a
hurtful, racist comment. Ajani is crushed.
Until a chance encounter with Louis the
Helper Hound helps Ajani feel proud of his
heritage and helps him and his classmates
fight racism.

Caryn Rivadeneira dreamed of two things as a kid: being
a writer and having lots of dogs. Both came true, almost!
Caryn is a writer. She’s written lots of books for both kids
and grown-ups. And Caryn has had lots of dogs. Caryn and
her rescued pit bull live in the Chicago suburbs with her
husband, three kids, a few rescued guinea pigs,
two parakeets, and too many fish.
