Before he became a feared pirate, Blackbeard was known as Edward Teach.
He was born around 1680, most likely in Bristol, England. Having grown up
in a coastal town, it was only natural that Teach would take to the sea.
Aye, aye, Cap’n!

Teach, as soon as she is within range of our cannons, raise the Jolly Roger. Sometime in the mid-1710s, Teach joined the pirate crew of Captain Benjamin Hornigold, who roamed the West Indies.
