MONUMENT
OR MEMORIAL
Is There a Difference?
What are monuments? How about memorials? And what’s
the difference? Both monuments and memorials are designed
to commemorate something or someone important,
usually a famous person or a big event. Some
say memorials more often honor the death
of a historic figure or a tragic event. But most
people use the two words to mean the same
thing. For example, the Washington Monument
is classified as a memorial, not a monument!
So, is there a difference? Kind of, but not really.
