                                       CMany worked in manufacturing or as domestic


                                       servants. Many of them worked very long hours. It was

                                       hard for parents to find child care. Some parents thought


                                       it would be better for their children to be raised in their


                                       native culture.

                                          Parents sometimes left their children with


                                       grandparents or another temporary family back in their

                                       home country. Parents hoped to create a stable life in


                                       Canada and then bring their children to Canada later.

                                       Working hard in Canada, parents sent money and supplies








                                       Many children were left behind when their parents immigrated
                                       to Canada.
