The Executive
Branch
M
ost businesses have
executives who lead them to
success. Executives are people
who have the power to put plans
and policies into effect. They are
responsible for managing the
business and making important
decisions, such as how to spend
the company’s money. In the
government, the executive branch
plays the same role. It proposes
new laws and makes plans for
how to spend
tax
money.
The executive branch oversees
the day-to-day business of the
government and makes sure it
runs smoothly. In a provincial
government, the executive is
made up of the head of state, the
premier
, and the cabinet, which is
a group of ministers who oversee
different departments. These people
make important decisions about
rules and laws that apply
to everyone in the province.
The Legislative Assembly of Manitoba
meets in the chamber at the centre of the
Legislative Building inWinnipeg. It has a
unique horseshoe-shaped layout that can
seat up to 58 representatives.
