But in the yellow house, there’s no sign of life. “What if she’s dead,” says Meatball.

No Dad comes to the door to pick up the news- “In that case, it won’t matter if we eat some of the

paper. No Cat appears, chasing after a mouse. No egg,” says Benny.

girl runs out and stops to pick a crocus from the lawn, “She’s not dead.” Cushion keeps a firm grip on the

then rushes into the kitchen to put it in an eggcup. chocolate egg. “I’ll look after it until she comes

No, there’s no girl to be seen! home from Northbrook or wherever she is.”

Benny glares. “Don’t you know chocolate can go

What girl is this? you might wonder. all hard and horrible,” he mutters as they leave.

Dani of course! Or Daniela, if we use her real
name. But on the day we’re talking about, it seems

              she isn’t at home.

When some of her classmates turn up and ring the

              doorbell, no one answers it.

Cushion and Meatball and Benny want to deliver

an Easter egg from the class and the teacher because

Dani hasn’t been to school for seven weeks. No one
has seen her since before the break when she got sick.

They ring and ring the doorbell, but no one opens

              the door. Where is she?
