Inuits use their kayaks to fish


             Survival


           The Inuit of the Arctic invented a closed-cockpit

           kayak. Covering the top, or cockpit, of the kayak

           with animal skin stopped the water getting in.

                                                                In the 19th century, Briton,

                                                                John MacGregor made
                                                                canoeing a popular sport

                                                                in Europe and the USA. He

                                                                designed a kayak similar to

                                                                the one used by the Inuit.
