Born and raised: Victoria, bc
Home base: Most often on his boat, Habitat. When
he’s not on the boat, Ian migrates between an island in
the Great Bear Rainforest and the Cowichan Valley on
Vancouver Island.

places; co-founder of Pacific Wild; photographing
and filming the wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest so
that others can see and understand the importance of
preserving this pristine wild area
When the bug bit: In his teens, when his dad, Peter,
became interested in conservation. Ian first joined
his father in 1988 at a logging blockade in Clayoquot
Sound, bc, spending his first night as a protester
hoisted high in a basket over a logging road.
Role in making the film: Director, filmmaker, diver,
climber, captain, coffee drinker
Soft spot: Coastal wolf packs—and his own pack made
up of his wife, Karen, and their children, Callum and
Lucy

Most recent victory: Capturing footage of surf
scoters (seabirds) feeding on herring eggs underwater
after three years of trying
