The door to the coach’s office was open.
Inside, Savino was emptying the contents of a
shelf into a cardboard box.
The former coach glanced over his
shoulder and seemed to recognize him but
then quickly looked back at the box. “What do
you want?” he said.
“I’m just curious why you did it.”
Savino dropped a plaque into the box. “I
was trying to help.”
“By cheating?”
“By boosting the team’s standing,” he
replied. “I wasn’t just helping the players who
knew what was going on. I was helping the
