baseball fan. Can’t play though?”
“Yeah,” Justin said, pointing to his left
knee. “Knee trouble.”
“Well, Bryce also told me what you did for
the team. It got me thinking—I could really
use an assistant coach. You know, another pair
of eyes on the players. Is that something you’d
be interested in?”
Justin felt his eyes go wide. He hadn’t
realized this was even a possibility. If he
had, he would have tried to do it years ago.
“Absolutely!”
Mr. Yang gave a little chuckle. “Great!
You’ll start tomorrow. Practice is right after
school. I’ll make sure they get you a shirt and a
hat. See you soon.”
“Thank you!” Justin stammered as the
coach walked away. Mr. Yang gave a little wave
over his shoulder and continued down the hall.
When Justin got to lunch, it was clear
that Bryce already knew what had happened.
He must have told Katie too, because they
both congratulated him before he even
said anything.
