Meanwhile Mr. Yang, one of the social
studies teachers, took over as the new coach,
and the team held vigorous practices. On
the plus side, the school sprang for metal
bats. They didn’t want to be accused of
cheating again.
“He’s working us hard,” Bryce told his
friends. “But we’re improving as a team.”
“Not as dramatically this time, I hope?”
said Katie wryly.
“Nah.” Bryce smiled. “We’re improving at
a rate that actually makes sense.”
Eventually the Lions were scheduled to
actually play a game. Justin was excited for
it, especially because this time he wouldn’t
have to look for suspicious activity. He was
on his way between classes when Mr. Yang
stopped him.
“You’re Justin, right?” the man said.
“Yeah.” Justin had never had him for class,
so he wasn’t sure why Mr. Yang recognized him.
