ACKNOWLEDGING
YOUR OWN POWER
Empowerment is everybody’s favorite buzzword these
days, but it’s a really, really good one for a Difficult Bitch
to keep in her back pocket. According to the Oxford
Dictionary, empowerment is “the process of becoming
stronger and more confident, especially in controlling
one’s life and claiming one’s rights.” There’s nothing more
fundamental to being a Difficult Bitch than this.
Becoming a Difficult Empowered Bitch is a lifelong
journey. It takes a lot of strength, support, and
encouragement to feel empowered. When you’re a little
kid, everybody makes decisions for you. Slowly, as you
grow up, you become more and more empowered to
do your own thing. You decide when you go to bed. You
decide what you’re going to have for breakfast and cook it
yourself. You pick your outfits.
But feeling empowered is about more than these
logistics. It’s about embracing your personal Difficult Bitch
on the inside and letting her shine on the outside.
A Difficult Empowered Bitch doesn’t rely on other
people to tell her who she is. She stands up for herself and
for others. She feels confident a lot of the time but can
admit when she doesn’t feel confident, or when she feels
